The carved scoring technique serves a dual purpose — it allows marinades and sauces to penetrate deeply for maximum flavour, and causes the squid to curl into an elegant, flower-like shape when cooked, creating a restaurant-worthy presentation that is sure to impress.
Stir-frying (recommended): Thaw, marinate briefly in soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic, then stir-fry over high heat for 2–3 minutes — watch the squid curl into beautiful flower shapes as it cooks, creating a visually stunning dish.
Blanching / Hot Pot: Drop into boiling water or simmering broth for 1–2 minutes until the squid curls and turns opaque — the fastest way to showcase the beautiful carved pattern.
Grilling: Marinate in garlic, olive oil, and lemon, then grill over high heat for 2–3 minutes until lightly charred and elegantly curled.
Deep-frying: Coat lightly in seasoned flour and deep-fry at 180°C for 2–3 minutes until golden, crispy, and beautifully curled.
