Bring the bold, robust taste of the open ocean to your kitchen with our Skipjack Tuna – Whole Round, Vacuum Packed — one of the most widely enjoyed tuna varieties in the world, celebrated across Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Island cuisines for its deep, rich flavour, firm dark flesh, and outstanding versatility. Known as Katsuo (鰹) in Japanese cuisine — the essential ingredient in authentic dashi stock and the beloved tataki — Skipjack Tuna is a true culinary cornerstone. Flash-frozen and vacuum packed at peak freshness to deliver bold, authentic ocean flavour straight to your table.
Grilling / Tataki (recommended): Thaw, sear the outside over very high heat for 30–60 seconds per side leaving the centre rare, then slice thinly and serve with ponzu, grated ginger, and scallions for a classic Japanese Katsuo tataki — a stunning, restaurant-worthy dish.
Braising: Braise in a rich soy, mirin, ginger, and sake sauce for 15–20 minutes for a deeply flavourful, comforting Japanese-style simmered tuna dish.
Steaming / Congee: Steam and flake into congee or rice porridge for a nourishing, protein-rich meal with bold seafood depth.
Stock / Dashi: Use the bones and trimmings to make a rich, deeply flavourful seafood stock or dashi base — the foundation of countless Japanese soups, sauces, and broths.
Skipjack Tuna is a bold, flavourful fish that shines in robust preparations — sear tataki-style and serve with a citrusy ponzu dressing and crispy garlic chips for an elegant Japanese appetizer, or braise in a sweet soy and mirin sauce and serve over steamed rice for a comforting, deeply satisfying meal. In Southeast Asian cuisines, try grilling with lemongrass, chili, and fish sauce for a vibrant, aromatic preparation. The rich, dark flesh also pairs beautifully with bold spices — try a spicy Sichuan-style braised tuna for a bold, warming dish. A versatile, flavourful fish for adventurous home cooks and seafood enthusiasts alike.
